Girl Scouts are always going places! Recently, 70 girls and volunteers from Service Unit 416 traveled to New York City to participate in several activities, including a dance workshop taught by the Radio City Rockettes.
One of the girls on the trip, Elizabeth Dare, wrote a firsthand account of the experience. Check out what she had to say!
Girl Scouts take on NYC

This fall, I got to go to New York City for my first time! My mom and I rode the train from Lewistown into the city along with my friend and her mom.
In the city, we got to see Time Square, do lots of shopping, and see Rockefeller Center, but the main event of the trip was the Rockettes’ “Christmas Spectacular”!
Our second day in the city was super fun! Joined by 70 other girls and their families from central Pennsylvania, we headed to Radio City Music Hall to see the show.
The theater looked so amazing. There were projections of snowflakes on the ceiling, organists playing music, and the whole place was huge! I was so excited to see the show.
There were lots of awesome dance numbers during the show. Some of my favorites included “Christmas in NYC,” “March of the Wooden Soldiers,” and the “12 Days of Christmas.” All the Rockettes were wearing beautiful, sparkly costumes. I also enjoyed hearing the singers sing some of my favorite Christmas songs.
Although the show was great, the dance workshop that we got to do afterwards was even more fun! Our group of Girl Scouts got to learn dance parts from two numbers: the Wooden Soldier lines and a big kick line from “Christmas in NYC.” I loved learning about the different kinds of kicks and how to make the movements sharp. The best part was that we were being taught by real Rockettes!
After we did lots of dancing, we did a Q&A with the Rockettes that were teaching us. We got to learn how they auditioned, how they got into dancing, and even the fact that they don’t hold onto each other when they do their big kick line.
I heavily enjoyed the experience and am so grateful to have gotten the chance to do this. It was so much fun, and we all had a great time!
