Traveling to Belize with the Girl Scouts was a very fun, important, and memorable experience. Belize is a country settled in the north-eastern coast of Central America. It is bordered by Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Guatemala to the west and south.
Well, now since the geography lesson is over, let’s learn about some of the fun things I did there!
One of the awesome things we got to do was go visit Mayan ruins. We took boat rides over to the traces of Mayan civilization, and one ride was even in the rain! We got to hike up lots of the major ruins, and our tour guides taught us about the everyday lives of the Mayans.
We also had a whole day in Belize dedicated to teaching us about the beauties of the nature there! We went tubing in an underwater crystallized cave, and we saw many natural structures taking the form of many real life creatures. It was a very comforting feeling floating through the water, and after that, we got to swim in the lake.
The other fun thing we got the opportunity to do is to feed a tapir, the official animal of Belize! They are adorable creatures related to horses and rhinos. We all got to take turns feeding him carrots at the local zoo, and I’m sure he was stuffed by the time he ate 60 carrot pieces!
These were only some of the fun adventures that the Girl Scouts embarked on. I hope that you are inspired one day to take an international trip of your own; whether it be Belize, or anything else that sparks your interest!

About the trip
In June 2023, 67 Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania spent 8 days in Belize, Central America. The trip allowed girls to learn about different cultures, try new things, build confidence, and forge new friendships. During the trip, Girl Scouts explored history while visiting the Lamanai and Xunantunich Mayan Ruins; tested the limits of their adventurous side through zip-lining, cave tubing, jungle survival experiences, and a jungle night hike; experienced cultural immersion by visiting with children at a local school; and had a taste of island life, complete with snorkeling in the Caribbean.
