Creating unforgettable memories at MLB game in Williamsport

This past weekend, members of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania had the opportunity to participate in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Little League World Series Classic between the Yankees and Tigers.

It was an unforgettable experience in Williamsport, Pa., home to Little League Baseball. The day was made possible by New York Life, which sponsored the event.

The girls were interviewed by MLB and were given a tour of Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. Two female athletes welcomed the girls, leading them through baseball drills and games. Veronica Alvarez, a catcher, was a member of the USA Baseball Women’s National Team, which won a gold medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. As a Girls’ Baseball Ambassador for MLB, she devotes time to promoting baseball for female players in the United States. AJ Andrews, a professional softball player and analyst/host for MLB Network, also met with the girls to talk about her love of the game. Three of our Girl Scouts, who are also softball players, had the unique chance to play catch on the field with the MLB staff.

The girls enjoyed every moment, from snacking at the concessions to dancing in the stands. Meeting the Detroit Tigers mascot, Paws, was a highlight for many, and for some, it was their first-ever MLB game.

The Girl Scouts were featured on ESPN during the broadcast of the game, shining a spotlight on Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania both locally and nationally.

Enjoy some of the photos of the day.
