Girl Scouts have been busy selling cookies, earning Highest Awards, giving back to their community, and more! Check out this month’s Mission Moment recap.
Check out all the fun Girl Scout activities
It’s a Penguin party!
Girls from Danville-based Troop 32919 had a lot of fun at the Wilkes Barre-Scranton Penguins Girl Scouts Night. These girls braved an ice storm to attend, handled some practice pucks, and enjoyed high fives at the tunnel!
Seeking treasure at Camp Small Valley
Brownies from Troop 10716 and 10712 enjoyed an afternoon exploring the adventure course at Camp Small Valley while they worked on their letterboxing badge! The girls found a letterbox that was originally hidden 11 years ago by another Girl Scout troop, and they hid three new letterboxes for other camp visitors to find!
Thinking globally in Perry County
Service Unit 165 – Perry County held a World Thinking Day Event. Troops created a display about the country of their choice with a craft, a game, a song or a food from their county. During the event, the girls traveled around the world learning about the different countries. They each received a Bling Bag which included a passport, a name tag and a baggie with samples of the original Girl Scout Cookies. Eight troops participated, with 63 girls and 20 adults enjoying a fun and educational day. They day ended with older Girl Scouts leading the group in a singalong while the leaders had a chance to clean up their stations.
Fun at Troop PA
Sylvia, a Brownie from Troop 10840, Victoria and Madeline, Brownies from Troop 80063, and Zoe, a Daisy from Troop 80088 all attended Troop PA 2025 at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. The girls got to participate in the rededication/investiture ceremony for women legislators, visit with state legislators, tour the Capitol and much more! After lunch, they earned their Democracy for Brownies and Daisies badges. There were some big feelings as the girls learned about the challenges of agreeing and passing a law. The girls did not know each other prior to the event but by the time the event was complete they became friends and are excited to go to another event together!
Earning Bronze in Lancaster County
On March 6, Troop 71308 ran a cooking class at Ephrata Library for registered kids ages 6 to 9. As their Bronze Award project, they shared the skills they gained from the Simple Meals badge to teach the kids how to be safe in the kitchen. After presenting their tips, they taught the students how to make guacamole and chicken quesadillas. Everyone had fun rolling limes and scooping avocados!
Cookie booth fun in Dauphin County
Brownie Troop 10731 has been busy working on their leadership skills at their first three cookie booths in March. The girls did a great job engaging customers and managing money. They held booths at Karns, Boscov’s, and Walmart, with one more planned at JoAnn Fabrics. With their cookie proceeds, the girls have already started planning to make birthday cake kits for the Central PA Food Bank and will enjoy a trip to Knoebels in May.
Creativity shines in Perry County
When February’s bitter, icy weather pushed Troops 10716 and 10712 indoors, these Perry County Girl Scouts made the most of their time and resources by recycling leftover materials from previous projects to earn their Art and Design badges. Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors got creative (and a little messy!) as they explored different mediums and learned about the primary elements of art and principles of design during their February troop meetings.
Coloring for a cause
Brownies and Juniors in Troop 10840 completed a service project for Color A Smile. Color A Smile is a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful drawings to nursing homes, hospitals, Meals on Wheels programs, the armed forces and anyone who is in need of a smile. Four adult volunteers and 10 Girl Scouts participated and colored a total of 83 pictures!
Celebrating Girl Scout Sunday
Daisy Troop 10730 and Brownie Troop 10731 celebrated Girl Scout Sunday on March 9. The Girl Scouts greeted visitors and handed out bulletins prior to attending Mass at St. Catherine Laboure in Harrisburg.

Taking the next step
Cara Costello from Lancaster County has been admitted to The University of Pennsylvania. In her acceptance letter, the admission representative specifically called out Cara’s work with Girl Scouts. The UPenn admission representative said, “I was so impressed by the depth of your leadership in Girl Scouts, and how that so clearly reflects your community-oriented spirit. There’s no doubt that you will continue to embody Wharton’s philosophy of education for good.” Last summer, Cara completed her Gold Award at Lancaster Conservancy. She coordinated several invasive plant removal weekends throughout the spring. She also served as a National Delegate in Orlando. Her parents and troopmates are grateful for the opportunities she has had with Girl Scouts, as they were instrumental in Cara’s admission at such a prestigious school. Congratulations, Cara!

Clowning around in Harrisburg
Brownie Troops 10065, 10067, 11042, 11062, and 11027 enjoyed an afternoon with clowns from the Zembo Shrine in Harrisburg. The girls earned their “Clowning Around” Try-It from the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council. They learned what the different types of clowns there are and heard about the history of hobo clowns and why they look the way they do. In addition, girls also got a chance to paint each other in “clown face” and make colorful hats. The clowns (Snellie, Pap, and Radar) also taught the girls to make balloon animals. Now they can tell their sister Daisy Girl Scouts about this fun annual event they can look forward to when they fly up to Brownies!
