Williamsport Cadettes help peers with period care kits at Curtin Intermediate

Academic Edge Girl Scouts at Curtin Intermediate School in Williamsport are among the first from the program to pursue Highest Awards! Cadettes have joined forces to earn their
Silver and Bronze awards.

The Curtin girls have chosen to work on a service project that is close to them. They noticed that sanitary pads are rarely available in their school bathrooms. To provide a solution, they are creating period care kits for girls in their school.

A group of eleven children posing together in front of a pink Christmas tree, with festive decorations in a classroom setting.

They are collecting small make-up bags, feminine hygiene items (pads, panty liners, and wipes), care items like adhesive warming patches for cramps, lip balms, shower steamers, lotions, and chocolates. The girls also include bracelets for each kit with supportive messages such as “You Got This” and “Girl Power.”

Each kit will include a mini pamphlet with anecdotes and words of encouragement. To carry on the work of creating the kits, the girls are working with their school faculty to establish a club that is welcome to all and helps to de-stigmatize talking about periods.

Also, one of the girls presented to the local Junior League, which agreed to assist with the project.

This project was submitted to Girl Scouts via our Mission Moment form. Have a story to share from your troop, we welcome your submission.
