Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania honored its 2024 Women of Distinction honorees on April 24 at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square.

The event recognized the achievements of four women, each of whom represents a pillar of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. A generational award paid tribute to a Girl Scout leader as well. The women leaders honored:

• Dr. Ericka Powell, Vice President of Medical Affairs, WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, who represented the STEM pillar;
• Delma Rivera-Lytle, retired Diversity Education Specialist, Central York School District, as the Life Skills pillar;
• Donna Schankweiler, retired co-owner of Central Penn Business Journal, representing the Entrepreneurship pillar;
• Lauren Ferreri, Biological and Visitors Center Manager, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, as the Outdoors pillar.

The legacy of Mary “Sue” Elizabeth Stone was recognized through the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Generational Award. Stone’s daughters, Jane Murray and Margaret “Meg” Burton Conners, accepted the award in their mother’s honor.

Hundreds of guests enjoyed dinner at the event, which included a silent and live auction as well as remarks by the evening’s honorees and Janet Donovan, President and CEO of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.

Lori Burkholder, WGAL News 8 co-anchor, served as emcee.

All proceeds from the auctions help build girls of courage, confidence, and character in the 30-county footprint of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania.
