From first-year Daisies to graduating Ambassadors, hundreds of Girl Scouts gathered on City Island in Harrisburg on Saturday, May 30, to celebrate one of the most meaningful traditions in Girl Scouting: bridging to the next level.
Thanks to the generous support of Constellation, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania welcomed girls and their families from across the council’s 30-county footprint for a free day of fun, friendship, and celebration.
Bridging is a cherished Girl Scout tradition that marks a girl’s transition to the next Girl Scout level, recognizing her accomplishments while encouraging her to embrace new opportunities, challenges, and leadership experiences ahead.
The celebration program was emceed by Girl Scout Allison, who welcomed attendees, helped guide the day’s festivities, and bridged to Ambassador that day. Following Allison’s remarks, attendees heard from Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania President and CEO Janet Donovan and Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams.
“Bridging is about so much more than moving to the next level,” Donovan said. “It is about recognizing how far you have come and celebrating the person you are becoming.”
Mayor Williams encouraged girls to be courageous, confident, and bold in pursuing their dreams, reminding them that their voices and actions have the power to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Throughout the morning, girls enjoyed SWAPS, games, a scavenger hunt, food trucks, and opportunities to connect with fellow Girl Scouts from across the region. They also reflected on their favorite memories from the past year, capturing the spirit of what makes Girl Scouting so special.
Some girls shared memories of earning awards, attending camp, and trying new adventures. Others reflected on serving their communities, visiting animal shelters, exploring museums and aquariums, spending time at cookie booths, or simply making new friends.
A few of the favorite memories shared included:
- “Winning a prize.”
- “Completing all my awards with my troop and having fun doing it.”
- “Trying out the new cookie.”
- “Going to the Baltimore Aquarium.”
- “Making soap!”
- “Meeting new people and friends.”
- “I loved going to the animal shelter.”
- “Eating snacks.”
- “Going to the zoo.”
- “Camp!”
- “When I went dog sledding.”
- “Spending time with friends at cookie booths.”
- “Getting to see the musical ‘Six.’”
- “Making friends.”
- “Going to camp and ziplining in the trees.”
The highlight of the day came as girls crossed the Walnut Street Bridge together, a symbolic step from one chapter of their Girl Scout journey to the next. With memories of the past year behind them and new opportunities ahead, each girl crossed with the courage, confidence, and character that Girl Scouting helps build.
As they begin a new Girl Scout year, they will continue making friends, discovering new passions, serving their communities, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Congratulations to all of our Girl Scouts who bridged to the next level. We can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next.
