Reward your troop with these membership-building incentives

Early Bird? Extended Year memberships? What do these terms mean and how can I earn incentives for my troop?

Each year, Girl Scout councils across the country conduct an Early Bird membership season. 

Why the name? It’s known as Early Bird because a regular Girl Scout membership year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 but Early Bird registration starts in April. It’s a chance for members to renew their membership early, usually for a discount.

Those new to Girl Scouts can also join starting in April, but they receive what is known as an Extended Year membership. This membership begins from the day a girl joins and extends through Sept. 30 of the following year. Extended Year memberships can be up to 18 months in length.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA) kicked off its Early Bird season on April 1, and is offering some exciting rewards in appreciation for Service Units (SU) and Troops.

Troops and Service Units can work toward these incentives (listed below) until June 30, 2023, and successful Service Units and Troops will be announced via a Facebook Live event on July 27, 2023.

Service Unit Initiatives:

  • New Daisy or Brownie Troop Creation:
    • 1 entry for each Daisy or Brownie created with 6 new girl members and 2 fully registered and background-checked adults
  • Community Event Attendance:
    • 1 entry for list submitted to Volunteer Support Coordinator detailing 10-15 events attended by Service Unit
  • Adult Recruitment:
    • 1 entry for each registered new adult member
  • Service Unit Renewal:
    • 1 entry for 2/3 of current girl members renewing for next year by June 30th

Service Unit Rewards:

  • GSHPA on Wheels programming
    • For up to 60 girls
    • Subject to availability
    • Date must be scheduled by Nov. 1 and event occur before Sept. 30, 2024
  • 50 percent discount on a GSHPA property reservation
    • Discount can be applied for 1 night
    • Reservation must be completed by Sept. 30, 2024
  • 10-foot by 10-foot canopy tents, branded with GSHPA logo (2 available)
  • 6-foot tablecloth, branded with GSHPA logo (4 available)

  • Admission for 12 to ZooAmerica
  • Admission for 12 to Hersheypark (includes access to ZooAmerica)
  • Admission for 12 to Electric City Aquarium
