Girl Scout Days return with Penn State Athletics

After a 4-year hiatus, Penn State Girl Scout Days came roaring back with recent opportunities for girls to join Nittany Lions players in action.

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania kicked off recent events at women’s volleyball game on Nov. 17. The troop with the highest attendance participated in a high-five tunnel on the court, giving girls the chance to greet the players as they ran onto the court. Troops were also able to visit with players after the game which pitted Penn State against Michigan State.

The next day, Girl Scouts enjoyed a Penn State football game at Beaver Stadium, cheering on the Nittany Lions as they battled Rutgers. Girl Scout Troops in attendance were recognized on the scoreboard, and four troops took the field before the game to hold and guard the American flag during the National Anthem.

On Jan. 28, Penn State women’s basketball celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day with Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania at their game against Minnesota. Girls participated in a high-five tunnel before the game. At a halftime ceremony, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania CEO Janet Donovan congratulated four local Girl Scouts who recently earned Silver and Gold awards.

“When Girl Scouts join college athletes in events like these, they get to see firsthand stellar female athletes in action,” said Holley Cyone, regional director for Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania. “We believe that girls’ involvement in collegiate sports may inspire their decisions to be athletes later in life. It’s a chance for the girls to enjoy top-ranked players doing what they do best while the girls also have fun with their fellow Girl Scouts.”
