This year, as Girl Scouts across the country celebrated Girl Scouts Birthday, the girls of Troop 70839 in Lebanon County chose to make the day even more meaningful by sharing that joy with others.
Wanting to put smiles on faces beyond their own troop, the girls collected donations to create “birthday cake boxes” for families served by the JOY Outreach food pantry. Each box was thoughtfully assembled with everything needed to celebrate a special day. Inside, families would find an aluminum pan, a box of cake mix, a can of soda to use as a shelf-stable baking ingredient, candles, frosting, sprinkles, balloons, a birthday card, and simple instructions.
For the girls, this project was about more than celebrating a birthday. It was about making sure everyone has the chance to feel seen, celebrated, and cared for on their special day. In every box, they packed not just ingredients, but kindness, creativity, and a reminder that someone is thinking of them.
By choosing to give back, Troop 70839 turned a celebration of Girl Scouts into a moment of connection and compassion. It is a beautiful example of how even small acts can make a big difference in someone’s life.
