Flying lesson includes paper airlines

One of our Lancaster Academic Edge groups spent a session working on the STEM Career Exploration badge and learning about how the career of a pilot connects to fields such as aerospace and mechanical engineering.

Keeping in mind the core values of Girl Scouts–leadership, confidence, and women-led careers–the group discussed Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Connecting Earhart’s story to the book “Here Comes the Girl Scouts,” the girls discussed how Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts to empower girls to build confidence, explore careers, and take chances. To bring learning to life, the girls then made paper airplanes, held airplane races, and played airplane tag, combining hands-on STEM learning with teamwork and fun.
